Betty Jean (Fishel) Broussard, age 91, passed from this life to eternal life on July 10, 2017.  Betty was born to Harry Leroy Fishel and Marie Irene (Price) Fishel on October 7, 1925 in Carbondale, Illinois.  She graduated from Abbeville High School in Abbeville, Louisiana in 1944 and shortly thereafter she married the love of her life, M. Roy Broussard in Pensacola, Florida where Roy was stationed with the Army Air Force during World War II.  Betty and Roy lived in many parts of the country after the war during Roy’s long career as an aerospace engineer.  She was a devoted wife and loving mother to their three daughters, Sandy, Janie and Cathy. Following the death of her husband in 1986, Betty lived in Huntsville, Alabama, where she resided until the time of her own death.  Betty enjoyed numerous hobbies, including crocheting, mosaic tile work and ceramic work. 

Later in life she enjoyed working puzzles and word games.  She was a gentle and caring person who volunteered with Meals on Wheels in her younger years and later worked at the Space and Rocket Center preparing materials for children attending Space Camp.  Left to grieve her passing are her three daughters, Sandy Mitchem of Phoenix, Arizona, and Janie Whisante (husband Joe) and Cathy Shea (husband Danny) of Huntsville, as well as grandchildren Melinda, Cass, Mike, Timmy, Jennifer and Jessica and numerous great-grandchildren. 

A funeral service will be held at Spry Funeral Home in Huntsville at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 with Father Phil O’Kennedy presiding.  Interment will follow at Faith Memorial Park.
