He was preceded in death by his parents, Moliy Salava and Ernest Frederick Meinecke, his daughter, Victoria Lynn Meinecke, and brother Gerald Meinecke. Ernie served in World War II in the Pacific Theater and was part of the occupation forces in Japan. Following his military service, he attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering, obtaining a degree in electrical engineering. Soon after, he began a 35-year career with IBM where he rose to senior management. During his career with IBM, he worked in numerous locations with varied projects such as the development of barcoding, the BART transit system, Skylab, and Global Positioning. After retiring in 1985, he and Arleen returned to Huntsville. Ernie became an avid golfer at Valley Hill Country Club. He boasted that he continued to walk his 18 holes until his 88th birthday, had four hole-in-one trophies, and continued to play several times a week until he was 90. In addition to being a skilled golfer, he was a glider pilot, Green Bay Packers fan, and enjoyed snow skiing with his family. Ernie was devoted to Arleen and was a supportive and loving grandfather.
