HC Blevins (Papa) was born August 26, 1922 and went to be with The Lord on February 13, 2018. He was happily married to his loving wife Jane for 57 years until her passing in 2001. They moved to Huntsville in 1948 and purchased their first grocery store from his father-in- law.
Mr. Blevins was in the grocery business for 36 years. Blevins Grocery which later became Piggly Wiggly had locations on Meridian Street, in Bailey Cove and Park City, TN. His years in the grocery business was as much a ministry as a business. He demonstrated a servants heart in his business and personal life. He was a strong, gentle, Christian man devoting his life to God, family and work. He was a charter member of Northside Baptist Church serving as a Sunday School teacher, Deacon and church Treasurer for many years. He was a veteran of WWII earning a rank of Technical Sergeant and honorably discharged in 1947.
HC was preceded in death by 5 sisters and 3 brothers. He is survived by 2 sisters, Mrs. Alta Scott and Mrs. Ruby Shadden and brother E.L. Blevins Jr. He leaves behind to pass on his Godly legacy 3 children Brenda Blevins Hammond, David Blevins (Gay) and Barry Blevins (Jan); Grandchildren include Michelle Blevins Jones (Greg), Joshua Hammond (Jennifer), Blake Hammond, Courtney Blevins Green (Matthew), Matthew Blevins and Blake Stanley (Tina); Great-Grandchildren include Haley Boyd, Hayden Jones, Harley Jones, Shelby Stanly, Elora Stanly, Jackson Green, Lilly Green, Kinsley Johnson, Maddox Hammond, Mali Hammond, Anna Hammond.
He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and brother. We rejoice that he is home with the Lord and one day soon we will all be reunited. He will be greatly missed by all. We will love you always.
Visitation will be held at Spry Funeral Home of Huntsville on Friday, February 16, 2018 from 12:00 pm until 1:30 pm. Services will begin at 1:30 pm in the Spry Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in Maple Hill Cemetery.
