PO2(ret) Hugh Steven Potter, 60 of Huntsville, passed away Friday at a local hospital.  He met his wife, Kelly Chappell, in 1982 and on January 14, 1983 he married her. They had their first child, Glenna, in December of 1983. Life couldn't have been better with a family and a great career working for the Navy. He traveled all around the world and lived in many different places, but managed to support his family. A few short years later they moved to Washington and had their second daughter, Marisha. They moved to Alameda, California where he served the majority of the rest of his years in the service. He retired in May 1998, from the U.S.S Abraham Lincoln.

He moved to Alabama, where he was born and where family would be closer and made this place their own. He was so full of life and would do anything if asked. His favorite pass time was spending his time at Plamor Bowling Lanes. He also had a love for Alabama football. Just last year his dreams of attending games came to reality and he took his granddaughter, Aliyah. He loved both his granddaughters so much and he often joked and played with them.

He is survived by his parents, Hugh B. Potter and Barbara Long; Stepmother, Patricia Potter; two daughters, Glenna Annette Potter and Marisha Suzel Potter; three brothers, Dale Potter, Darrell Potter and Roger Potter; and two granddaughters Aliyah Nichelle Potter and Elizabeth Anne Potter.

Hugh may be gone from this Earth, but his spirit will always reside in those who had the chance to get to know him.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Spry Funeral Home of Huntsville, where the family will receive friends Friday from 4:00 until 6:00pm.  A memorial service will follow at 6:00pm in Spry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Steve Spray officiating.
