Mr. Otis Clyde “Andy” Anderson, age 81 of Huntsville, passed away Friday at home with his wife, family and friends nearby. He was born August 5, 1935 in Plevna, Alabama to Otis P. Anderson and Eula Dodson Anderson.  During his youth he moved with his family back and forth between Elora, Tn and Harvey, Illinois, to work odd jobs, in helping to support his family.  He attended Flintville High School 1951 Freshman Year, transferred to Huntland High School for one half year.  Withdrew from school at completion of junior year and enlisted in the U.S. Army for eight (8) years, 3 active, 5 reserved. He completed thirty two weeks Teletype-Crypto repair, which required a Top Secret Crypto clearance.  During a year and a half service in Korea, his responsibility included maintaining all the classified equipment in Taegu, Tajon, and Pusan, Korea Communication Centers.  For his outstanding performance he received the Soldier of the Month Award.  Additionally, he completed GED High School exams during his Army enlistment.  After Army military service, in 1958 he was employed as a Crypto Operator for Chrysler Missile Systems in Huntsville.  During this time he learned to wire accounting control boards (pre-computer).  The following four years he was employed at Brown Engineering, Huntsville, AL. as Programmer and Manager of a First Generation computer system in the 1960’s.  Budget exceeded a million dollars a year.
He was recruited by NASA to computerize Marshall Space Flight Center’s financial applications and systems.  He worked as a Supervisory Computer Programmer, Computer Systems Analyst with responsibility to envision, design, develop and implement major accounting systems mandated by Congressional, Statutory and local requirements. He received many NASA service awards.   He served as Branch Chief and while working fulltime he attended college in the evenings. He received his B.S. degree from Athens State University in 1998 at age 53.
Retirement in 1990 offered opportunities for pursuing other areas of interest, e.g. as a member of Valley Hill Golf Club, he became an avid golfer.  He also played golf at Redstone, and took several trips to Myrtle Beach with his golf buddies.  Additionally he enjoyed farming; primarily growing soybeans, and also playing banjo and guitar blue grass music.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria Anderson, sister Janis Anderson, nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Florence Smith, and a brother, William Anderson
Arrangements have been entrusted to Spry Funeral Home of Huntsville, where the family will receive friends Wednesday from 11:00 until 12:00pm.  A funeral service will follow at 12:00pm in Spry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Murray Wilton officiating.  Interment will follow at Rice Cemetery in New Market.
