Robert Earl Newman, age 85, of Owens Cross Roads, Alabama passed away on Saturday, September 2 at a local hospital after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Mr. Newman was born on August 13, 1932 in Jackson County, Alabama to Fred and Bessie (Smith) Newman. He graduated from Madison County High School in 1950. 

After graduation, Mr. Newman served his country in the Army and was a Korean War Veteran.  He worked as a civil servant at Redstone Arsenal for 32 years. Mr. Newman enjoyed farming and spent the majority of the last three decades raising cattle and crops on his family farm in Gurley, Alabama. He was a member of Big Cove Church of Christ, where he was a former Deacon and song leader.  

Mr. Newman was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Thomas Graham Newman and Joe David Newman; and one sister Mildred (Newman) Phillips.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Jimmie Louise (Andrews) Newman; two children, Gerald Edward Newman and Susan (Newman) Cunningham; and one granddaughter, Kristin Osmer Cantrell. 

Visitation for Mr. Newman will be on Tuesday, September 5 from 1:00 P.M. - 3:00 P.M. at Spry Funeral Home in Huntsville Alabama. The memorial service will begin at 3:00 P.M. with Alvin Alston officiating. Internment will follow at Huntsville Memory Gardens.
