Velma Mae (Rollins) Simpson passed away peacefully at her home in Huntsville, AL on the morning of Friday, January 26, 2018, at the age of 94.
Born in Ochlocknee, Georgia on September 30, 1923, she was the daughter of Grover Lee and Lonie Alma (Bass) Rollins. She was married to Julius Ceaser Simpson on December 21, 1940. Following her husband’s military service, they settled in Huntsville, AL, where she devoted her life to caring for her husband, her sons, and grandchildren. She shared her love of cooking with many of Huntsville’s children, through her service in the lunchroom at Jones Valley Elementary School in the 1970’s, and following the death of her husband, she became an active member of the Huntsville-Madison County Senior Center, where she served as a Gift Shop Volunteer for nearly 20 years, and was also a member of Living Hope Church for over 30 years, where she enjoyed serving as a member of the Altar Guild and as a volunteer in their Vacation Bible School.
Mrs. Simpson is preceded in death by her husband, Julius Ceaser Simpson and two sons, David Lee Simpson, Sr. and Philip Julius Simpson, Sr. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Joanne Reed Simpson, of Huntsville; four grandchildren, David Lee Simpson, Jr. (Raney), Scott Eric Simpson (Trisha), Philip Julius Simpson, Jr., of Huntsville, AL, and Analise Elizabeth Meeks (Will), of Birmingham, AL; seven great-grandchildren, Julia Simpson-Hawkins (Jeff), of Annapolis, MD, David Carter Simpson, of Orlando, FL, Mary Katherine Simpson, Matthew Eric Simpson, Bailey Marie Simpson, all of Huntsville, AL, Stella Kathryn Meeks, and Drake Thomas Meeks, of Birmingham, AL.
Funeral Services will be held at Spry Funeral Home on Monday, January 29, 2018. The family will receive visitors from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. followed by the service at 12:00 p.m., with Bro. Mark Nymeyer, officiating. Burial will be in Huntsville Memory Gardens.
