Donald Ware Obituary

Donald “Don” Rudy Ware, 66, of Paint Rock, AL, passed away Sunday, April 21, 2024.

Don was born January 30, 1958 to Douglas & June Ware in Pusan, Korea. After graduation from Pusan American High School in 1976 he moved to the US and began studying Business at California State University Stanislaus. Graduating with a BA in 1981.

After graduation, Don moved back to Korea to become the director for the South Korea USO (United Service Organizations). After a few years, Don moved to New York to assist his Mother in her import/export business. Work is what ultimately brought Don to Huntsville, and eventually to his home as General Manager at Plamor Lanes.

In 1996, Don met Tina at Plamor Lanes. They immediately hit it off and later married. Through marriage Don inherited two sons and he would become the proudest of Grandpapas to his four grandkids.

Don grew up enjoying all sports and the outdoors fishing whenever he could.  He excelled in high school playing soccer, football, basketball, and baseball while setting pins to bowl free games on the military base in Pusan, Korea during lunch.  Many of you know his passion for fishing as this was the epitome of any day in his life with the night at the bowling center as good health would allow.  He soundly cherished these moments and touched the hearts of many bowlers in Huntsville the past 30 years.  He was always available to lend a coaching hand at Plamor Lanes and most recently, at Redstone Lanes where he started back after years of absence.  Don was "at home" on the river or the bowling center as his name was synonymous with "Coach", "Friend" and always, "Family".  Don was so content with the success of others he coached or knew.  He was always an optimist despite his health issues and never had a bad or negative comment in reference to anyone or anything. In recognition of his many contributions to the bowling community, Don was inducted into the Huntsville City Bowling Hall of Fame in June 2003.

Don’s love of everything bowling, and other than family and friends, may only be rivaled by his love of animals. Don and Tina, through their rural addresses over the years, had many stray animals show up on their doorsteps. They never met a lost animal that wasn’t welcomed. Don had a connection to and love for his pets that was easily recognizable.

Don was predeceased by his mother and father. He is survived by his wife, Tina Ware, two sons and daughter-in-laws, Chris & Stephanie Burch and Ryan & Leah Burch, his four grandkids, Gianna, Jackson, Emma, and Hannah, his brother and sister-in-law, Ron & Jin Ware, his sister, Patty Johnson, and nieces and nephews, Yvonne, Ronnie Jr., Donny, BreeAnna & Breelle.

Spry Funeral Home, along with Don’s family, will host visitation on Sunday, April 28th, from 1:00-3:00, and on-site service to immediately follow. Don chose to be cremated so there will be no gravesite service. In lieu of flowers, Don and his family have requested donations to your local veterinarian’s offices, animal rescue shelters, etc. as these are places Don held in high regard.
