Chauncey Depew Jackson, 93, passed away Friday, January 12, 2018. Born January 18, 1925, in Providence, Rhode Island, he was the son of Dovard Jackson and Amelia Priest Jackson. He spent his childhood in rural Fall River, Massachusetts within a family of thirteen brothers and sisters where he learned to appreciate the very simple things in life. The very day after graduating high school, he joined the US Navy to serve like his older brother, Dovard, whom had survived the bombing at Pearl Harbor on-board the USS Helena. He became a Radioman and eventually served as an Electronics Technician Mate on the destroyer escort, USS Dobbler. Once discharged as a Chief Petty Officer after only three and a half years of service, he attended Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts, where he met his bride Alice Mary Trombley Jackson, and furthermore, graduated with an Electrical Engineering Degree.  After working at IBM for over thirty years, he worked in the civil service for another ten. He had a passion for the life of the cowboy and loved his many annual outings with other would-be cowboys at a ranch in Wickenburg, Arizona. He epitomized those who just loved life and was very compassionate and caring for those less fortunate than him. Surviving siblings include his brother Roger (Karen); sisters Gloria Piche (William), Carol Jenks (Colin), Sandy Sleeper (Ronald); sons Chauncey II (Diane) and Dovard (Kay); grandchildren Laura Campbell (Peter), Nathan (Christina), Eric (Jana), Dale; and great grandchildren Jack, Gianna, Benjamin, Isaac, and Carrie; and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be forever grateful for all the special friends, nurses and staff at both the Regency Retirement Village and the Regency Healthcare and Rehab Center, as well as the wonderful nurses, staff and caregivers at the Floyd E. “Tut” Fann Veterans Home and Hospice of North Alabama. The family suggests memorials be made in his memory to his favorite charity, St Jude Children's Research Hospital. The family will have a personal memorial service Sunday, January 14, 2018 at 11:00 am at Spry Funeral Home.
