Cynthia Jo (Ballentine) Peebles was born in Santa Fe, NM to Larry and Marilyn (Steele) Ballentine on April 6, 1964. She spent most of her childhood in Wichita, KS, moving with her parents to Huntsville, AL in 1981. She graduated from Grissom High School in Huntsville in 1982. She attended St. John’s College in Winfield, KS until it’s closure in 1986. She later graduated from the University of Alabama in Huntsville with a BA in Education in 1993, and a BS in Early Childhood Education from Athens State College in 1995. She worked as a teacher at Ascension Lutheran Child Development Center and Preschool, Valley Fellowship Christian Academy and Grace Lutheran School.
She was married to fellow Kansan Michael Peebles in Huntsville on June 19, 1993. They welcomed their son Charles Joseph in 1997 and daughter Anna Marie in 1999. She was devoted to her family and enjoyed spending her time caring for them. She also enjoyed reading and collecting children’s literature.
Cyndi suffered the loss of her son to glioblastoma multiforme on March 25, 2011, but turned that grief into an opportunity to quietly reach out and minister to hundreds of other bereaved parents and friends, sharing the faith in Christ that sustained her. She was also preceded in death by her father, who succumbed to ALS in 2014.
Cyndi passed away at Huntsville Hospital on July 27, 2019 following a short illness, reuniting with her son in the arms of her Lord. She was an organ donor and many of her organs were used to help others.
Cyndi is survived by her husband Mike and daughter Anna, brother Todd and wife Laura, niece Emily and husband David, nephew Christopher, many aunts, uncles, cousins and her mother Marilyn who then passed away on Tuesday, July 30, 2019.
Visitation will be Friday, August 2nd from 6-8pm at Spry Funeral Home & Crematory, 2411 Memorial Parkway NW. Viewing will be Saturday, August 3rd at 1pm, followed by the funeral service at 2pm at Ascension Lutheran Church, 3801 Oakwood Ave NW, with Pastor Bernard Ansorge officiating. Graveside service will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Darin Lightfoot, Robby Gehring, Mason Lee, Mark Smith, Jeff Whitmire and Cameron Lee.
Memorials may be made in Cyndi’s honor to Ascension Lutheran Child Development Center and Preschool or the Huntsville Hospital Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit.
