CW2(ret) Dean Thomas Hocken, age 70 of Toney, AL passed away Thursday at a local hospital. He was born on September 27, 1946 in Independence, Iowa with nine brothers and three sisters. His passion was his family first and foremost. He was retired from the U.S. Army.  He also enjoyed working on vehicles and maintaining his washer and dryer business in Toney. He was also very passionate about helping others as he could.

Mr. Hocken was preceded in death by his wife Dolores Irene Margaret Hocken, twin brother Gene Joseph Hocken, parents Kathryn Agnes Obrien and Merlin Laverne Hocken.

Mr. Hocken is survived by his daughter Sandra Dean Specht; sons Larry Joseph Hocken (and wife Theresa Kay Hocken) and David Lee Hocken; eight granddaughters Kyleanna Marie Irene Specht, Arielle Frances Campbell Specht, Kaitlyn Serene Hocken, Abbigayle Elizabeth Frances Specht, Alexis Jayden Hocken, Jasmine Irene Star Specht, Logan McKenzie Hocken, and Isabelle JoAnne Hope Specht; and one great-grandchild is expected.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Spry Funeral Home of Huntsville. A memorial service will be held Sunday June 11, 2017 3:00pm at Huntsville Memorial Gardens next to his wife.
