George Martin Sutor

George Martin Sutor was born on the Sutor farm near Galesburg, Illinois on July 16, 1936 to Frank Sutor and Alfaretta Miles Sutor; one of the hottest days of July on record according to his mother.

George attended Illinois Wesleyan and graduated from Iowa State University (then Iowa State College). Upon graduation he began his long career as an owner of Consumers Grain and Supply Co. in Galesburg and Abingdon.

He married the love of his life Karen Michael and together they had three daughters who were the pride and joy of his life: Elizabeth Ann Sutor, who preceded him in death; Michelle Sutor Horaney, married to Patrick Horaney; and Susan Sutor Stellmacher, married to Edward Stellmacher. He had five granddaughters: Morgan, Alexis and Kyra Horaney, and Cassandra and Caitlin Stellmacher. His greatest joys were family gatherings where some of his most memorable, funny and heartwarming events were shared as well as travel with family and friends.

He had three brothers who preceded him in death: Murle Frank, John Miles, and Stanley Lewis.

Through his life he was active in several organizations from the Jaycees, Cosmopolitans, The Quiet Ones, Bank of Galesburg and First Midwest Bank boards, Cottage Hospital Board, Grain Dealers Association, to being a Soangetaha member until leaving Galesburg this year.

If he could tell you now about his life he would probably say he was truly blessed with a long happy marriage of over fifty-three years, wonderful times with all of his girls, the best of friends, travel to many parts of the world and a satisfying career. 

Friends and family are invited to attend a celebration of his life at Soangetaha Country Club on June 23, 2018 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Memorials may be made in his name to Hospice of North Alabama, First United Methodist Church of Galesburg, or donor’s choice.
