Jean McBride, 91, of Huntsville, Alabama passed away November 14, 2018. She was born on June 14, 1927 in Harvey, Illinois to Thomas Lee and Maye (Tucker) Stafford. Her family moved to Tennessee and she attended Tullahoma High School.  Jean was an avid and skillful roller skater during her younger years, as well as a capable seamstress.  She was married to Billy McBride in 1946 and they celebrated 65 years of marriage before his passing in 2011.  Jean and Bill were faithful members of the Chase Park Church of Christ.

Jean retired from J.C. Penney in 1989 after a career in which she was well known for her sense of style.  In retirement she took up painting and several of her works are displayed in the homes of her family members.

Jean is survived by her daughter, Paula (Ross) Anderson of Fairburn, Georgia; two grandchildren, Scott Anderson of Montgomery and Heather (Chuck) Pruitt of Canton, Georgia; and three great-grandchildren, Logan Anderson, Ellie Pruitt and Luke Pruitt.  In addition, she is survived by one sister, Jackie Womack of Manchester, Tennessee and several nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by two sisters, Jo Lunsford and Margaret Lehew, and one brother, Jimmy Stafford.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Spry Funeral Home of Huntsville, Alabama. The family will receive friends at Spry Funeral Home on Saturday, November 17, 2018 from 11:00 am until 12:30 pm with a graveside service to follow at 1:00 pm at Maple Hill Cemetery.

The family expresses special thanks to those who have been very supportive and caring for Jean during the past few years:  the Chase Park church, the Cedar Grove Church of Christ, and the Baptist Manor of Palmetto Park where she resided since 2012.  Appreciation is also given to the Spry Funeral Home for their professional work and their kind, helpful attitude.

Jean was devoted to her Lord, generous to her family and kind to everyone. She will be missed. “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.”
