Lester left us at the age of 93 on January 28 to be with his Heavenly Father. He was a member of Mayfair Church of Christ.
Lester was born in Choctaw County, Mississippi. After serving in the Army during WWII (a recipient of the Purple Heart), he received his M.A. in Education from Mississippi State University. He married Gerry Rickels in 1948 and in 1954 he moved with his young family to New Mexico and Arizona. Later, as a DoD civilian, he became the base Education Officer for the military, which took him to Vietnam, Panama Canal Zone, Berlin, Germany, and England. After retirement from England, Lester and Gerry worked with the Sojourners, a Christian ministry, which took them to many states in their RV for 13 years.
Lester is preceded in death by his daughters Sandy Welford and Cheryl Vaughan.
He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years Gerry; sister Juanita LeBouef of Eupora, MS; daughter Kathy Linebaugh of Huntsville, AL; son David Vaughan of Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica; five grandchildren Lisa Peterson, Karen Segars, Michael Welford, Nicole Kondracki and Paul Linebaugh; and three great grandchildren.
