Michael Horgan Obituary

Michael Leroy Horgan, age 44 of Huntsville, Alabama, affectionately known as Sixx-Pack, passed away peacefully on the evening of Wednesday, March 20, 2019. He was loved by his family, friends, and fans of his long-time band, Cancerslug. He was born on November 19, 1974 in Boston, Massachusetts to his mother, Sheila Baines whom he loved dearly. He moved with his family to Huntsville at an early age and attended Huntsville City Schools. As a child he played soccer and baseball but found his passion in music and cooking. He started cooking at Bandito Burrito when he was a teenager while also learning to play the bass, drums, and guitar. Eventually he started playing and singing with his friends in punk rock bands, sometimes playing for up to four bands at a time. He took his gift for music seriously, spending many late nights practicing with his bands at his childhood home in Northwest Huntsville. During that time, he had played in the majority of local bands in Huntsville including 15E, Sewer Punx, The Shiznits, and the W.O.P.S.

Everyone seemed to know Mike. Mike’s sense of humor, amazing cooking skills, and passion for music and performing allowed him to make friends easily. He was loved by all of those who visited him at Bandito Burrito where he continued to work until his final resting day. Mike was an institution at Bandito where he would cook a feast for the annual Bandito Christmas party, hosting over 100 of his friends all night with great food, music, and laughter. However, those who knew and loved Mike, knew him not just as an awesome cook at Bandito, but also as the energetic, powerhouse drummer for the band Cancerslug that he played with for over 10 years. With the band, Mike performed on several national tours and eight albums.

Mike was a loving father, uncle, and partner to his fiancée Becca. He was preceded in death by his older brother Seth Merchak, formerly known as Larry Horgan. He is survived by his son, Noah Horgan; fiancée Becca Billiter and her two daughters Tora and Anya; mother, Sheila Baines; brothers Elijah Horgan, Tyrone Sutton; sister Loretta Wongus; and several nieces and nephews.
