Otto "Toby" Lafayette Mullins, age 85 of Decatur, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday July 31, 2018. He was born in Hartselle, Alabama to parents Simeon Elvis Mullins and Nancy Ophelia Burch. He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters, Nell Mullins Anderson, Dorothy Mullins Black, Fay Mullins McCurley, Ruth Mullins Brown and Ann Mullins Moses; and one brother, Sim Ray Mullins.
Toby was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps in the Korean War. He was an Ordained Baptist Deacon and a long-time member of the Westmeade Baptist Church. He retired from Wolverine Tube and General Motors Saginaw Steering Gear. He volunteered for the Huntsville Botanical Garden "Grubbers," the Iditarod Sled Dog Race and the United Way of Athens and Limestone County. He was a talented artist, avid gardener, animal lover, and he enjoyed creating habitats in their yard for the birds, squirrels, and chipmunks.
Toby is survived by his wife of 63 years Shirley Ann Mullins (Wellden); daughter Amy Golden and husband Harry of Athens; granddaughters Mary Madeline Golden and Olivia Mullins Golden; numerous cherished nieces, nephews, and friends; three great-grand dogs; and a great-grand cat.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Spry Funeral Home of Huntsville. The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 7th, at Westmeade Baptist Church from 1:00 until 3:00 pm. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 pm.
