Richard Walter Gilbert Jr.

Mr. Richard W. Gilbert Jr., 71 of Huntsville, AL passed away on Wednesday, May 9, 2018.

Richard was a U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran.

He graduated from the University of Alabama, Huntsville (UAH) and was an Electrical and Aerospace Engineer supporting Guided Missile Systems.

His hobbies included hiking, camping, backpacking, woodworking, cooking, amateur radio operator (KA4ZIG), Boy Scout leading, karate (black belt), and he was an avid runner for many years.

He is survived by his wife Deborah J. Gilbert of Huntsville, Al; stepson Jeremy L. Romberger of Austin, TX; son Richard W. Gilbert III and wife Blanca of Laredo, TX; son Robert W. Gilbert, M.D. of Estill Springs, TN; grandsons Dillon W. Gilbert, Griffin R. Gilbert, and Tristan K. Gilbert; sister and brother-in-law Holly and Michael Manfredi of Lakeland, FL; sister and brother-in-law Cheryl and Dale Mitchell of New Milford, CT; brother and sister-in-law Raymond and Pam Gilbert of Torrington, CT; and brother and sister-in-law Paul and Cris Gilbert of Huntington Beach, CA.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Spry Funeral Home of Huntsville, Alabama. A visitation will be held at Spry Funeral Home on Saturday, May 12, 2018 from 2:00pm until 4:00pm.
