Steve Montgomery

Steve Montgomery of Huntsville, AL went to be with Jesus on December 11, 2018 at the age of 59. Steve attended both Buckhorn and Sparkman High School and graduated in 1977. He completed many college and training courses to enhance his law enforcement career, including, Controlled Force Defensive Training, Strategic Self Defense and Grappling Tactics, FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development, and many other Criminal courses.

Steve is survived by his adoring wife, Debbie Mitchell Montgomery, 2 loving daughters, Shellie Hodge, her husband Richie, and 2 daughters, Hayden and Aida, and Jessica Ruth Banks, her son Zack, and husband Brandon. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Robert Montgomery and his mother-in-law, Jesse Ruth Mitchell, whom he loved very much. He is survived by 1 sister, Bonnie Johnson (Jimmy), and 4 brothers, Robert, Don (Teresa), Ron (Rose), and David.

Steve served in the Army from 1980 until 1986, where he earned many honors including the Good Conduct Medal, Sharp Shooter Badge, Army Service Ribbon, and the Overseas Service Ribbon.

From childhood, Steve dreamed of being in law enforcement, and his dream became reality when he began working for the Madison County Sheriff‘s Department in 1983. As he worked his way up through the ranks to become a lieutenant in February 2002, he earned many awards and had many accomplishments, including, Supervisor in Communications at the 911 call center, and Division of Internal Affairs Investigator. He loved sewing his community through the Sheriff’s Department and did so until he retired in 2012.

Steve deeply loved his family and was seIf-sacrificing throughout his life. He will be greatly missed.

Visitation will Monday, December 17, 2018 from 5:00 pm until 6:00 pm with a service to follow at 6:00 pm at Spirit of Praise Meridianville on 135 Bob Wade Ln NW, Huntsville, AL 35810.
