Sylvia Lavon Thrower, 81, of Huntsville, Alabama passed away July 29, 2017. She was born on September 25,1935 to Willie and Thelma (Boggs) Cothren.

Sylvia Lived in or near the Lincoln Village community off her life. As a young girl attending Lincoln Elementary School, she enjoyed going to movies or social activities at Lincoln Baptist Church with her family and friends.

At the age of 16, Sylvia met and married the love of her life, Harvey “Joe” Thrower. When Joe died in 2002, they had been married for 51 years. Sylvia dedicated her adult life to being the best wife and mother to her five children. Her caring and loving spirit shined each day as she taught her children through example.

A most challenging time in Sylvia’s life was saying goodbye to her beautiful daughter, Tina Diane, and brave son, Billy Joe. Both went to be with the lord too soon.

Some of her proudest moments was becoming a “Granny” to her sweet granddaughter Sara and “Granma” to her grandson Rob. Watching them grow up brought great joy to her life!

During the retirement years, Sylvia and Joe loved taking sightseeing trips, visiting family, playing cards, reading books, playing puzzles, and attending Bible Studies.

As her body began to fail, Sylvia found strength through her faith. With each fall, God provided the necessary care and surrounded her with loving people. Her wish was to live out her life in her home of 50 years. For the past three years she was able to do just that without any major illnesses.

On the morning of July 29, after a month long fight at a local hospital, the lord took his sweet child to her heavenly home. She is survived by her family who will forever love and miss her.

Grandchildren: Sara Thrower and Rob Scheidecker

The family will receive friends at Spry Funeral Home on Monday July 31, 2017 from 5:00 - 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be at 11:00AM Tuesday on August 1, 2017 and interment will follow at Huntsville Memory Gardens.
