Arleen Meinecke

August 26, 1928-August 13, 2020

Arleen Margaret Meinecke died on August 13, 2020, in Huntsville, Alabama, just short of her 92nd birthday.  She was born to the late Hazel and George Petrovich in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on August 26, 1928, growing up in the same neighborhood as her late husband, Ernest (Ernie) Meinecke.  They were childhood friends and she loved to tell the story of him stealing her away from her fiancé just after he returned from serving during World War II.

Arleen and Ernie lived in numerous states, transferring with Ernie’s work with IBM before retiring in Huntsville in 1986. 

Arleen is predeceased by her parents, her brother, Robert Petrovich, husband, Ernest L. Meinecke, and daughter, Victoria Lynn Meinecke.  She is survived by her son, Ernie Meinecke, daughter-in-law, Deborah Baker, grandsons Joshua McGee (Jenny), Jesse Stout (Krissy), Lee Meinecke (Tonya) and Matthew Meinecke (Chelsea), along with brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Maggie Meinecke, and numerous nieces and nephews.   

Arleen was devoted to her family, especially her four grandsons. She was known for her homemaking and her gracious hospitality.  In her retirement years, Arleen played a mean hand of bridge with her club at Valley Hill Country Club. She was a dedicated friend to many who passed before her and continued to gather new friends even in her last few years at Brookdale Jones Valley and Brookdale Hampton Cove. 

A private family service will be held at St. Marks Lutheran Church in Huntsville on August 26, 2020.
