Ben "Benny" Austin Thompson III

Ben “Benny” Austin Thompson III, 62, of Hazel Green, Alabama, passed away on August 31, 2025. He was born on August 3, 1963, and was a lifelong resident of Hazel Green, AL where he was known for his hard work, ability to make people laugh, and love of the outdoors.

Benny dedicated 43 years of his life as a welder and machinist, earning respect for his skill, attention to detail, and commitment to his craft. Outside of work, he found joy in fishing, hunting, and motorsports. He also had a deep appreciation for classic hot rods, especially Ford Mustangs. He was working on restoration of his 1976 Cobra Mustang 2 at the time of his passing.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ben Austin Thompson Jr., and his sister(s), Regina Six Cooley, and Cindy. He is survived by his loving mother, Shirley Marshall Thompson; his son, Brandon Austin Thompson; his sister, Karen, nephew Zachary Lynn Beegle, and great nephews Robert and Landon.  His memory will also live on in the many friends and family who were blessed to know him with his quick wit and jokes.

Benny will be remembered as a man who lived with grit, heart, and devotion to the things he loved most—his family, laughter, and the simple life.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be made to Shirley Thompson and Brandon Thompson to help with funeral expenses.

Services will be held at Spry Funeral Home of Huntsville with Visitation on Sunday, September 7th, 2025 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. The Funeral Service will be on the following day, Monday, September 8th, 2025 at 11:00am. Ben will be laid to rest in Huntsville Memory Gardens.
