Beverly Gillespie Marchelos, of Huntsville, AL, died on September 29, 2020 in Huntsville, AL
Born in Tarrent City, AL she was reared in Pensacola, FL. Mrs. Marchelos
is predeceased by her parents, J. D. and Louise Gillespie and her brother,
Jerald Dan Gillespie. Her parents opened Gillespie Brace and Limb Co. in
1946. She graduated from Pensacola High School in 1958. Her
undergraduate degree is from University of Florida. She received her
Masters in Social Work from George Warren Brown School of Social Work,
Washington University, St. Louis, MO in 1972.
She helped open the Mental Health Clinic and the Puller Vocational Center
in Saluda, VA and worked on the psychiatric units at Perry Point Medical
Center and William Beaumont Medical Center. She lived in Germany from
1980 until 1993 where she worked as the senior Social Worker for the 2nd
Armored Division Forward. Eleven out of fourteen years she was in
Osterholz, Germany where she received USAEUR highest civilian service
award. In Karlsruhe, Germany she was one of the first civilian Chiefs of
Staff of an Army Support Battalion and attended the prestigious Army
Management Staff College in 1990.
She retired in Huntsville, AL in 1993 where she offered professional
development classes for Universities, US Army and industry across the
South. She was heavily involved in the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute in
Huntsville and enjoyed gardening. She traveled in 157 countries with her
husband of 60 years, George F. Marchelos. She will be cremated and interned at Bayview Memorial Cemetery in Pensacola, Florida.
She died unexpectedly in her sleep after a very short illness.
