Billy Wesley Homer, 93, of Guntersville, Alabama, passed away on October 27, 2025. Bill was born in Hamilton, Alabama, to Fred and Etheline Homer on October 27, 1932.
He grew up loving sports and excelled at basketball. Bill graduated from Hamilton High School and married the love of his life, Polly. Shortly thereafter he entered the military. Upon returning from the army, he attended junior college and later got a basketball scholarship to attend Athens State College where he earned a BS degree in education. He went on to teach and coach basketball at Buckhorn High School for a few years before accepting a job with the Huntsville YMCA. Bill retired from the Y and went to work with the Huntsville Recreation Department.Through his work with the YMCA and the youth of Huntsville, Bill was given an honorable mention in the Madison County Sports Hall of Fame. Somewhere along the way, Bill learned to love golf and spent many happy hours on local courses. He and Polly moved to Guntersville approximately 7 years ago.
He is survived by his loving wife, Polly Homer; daughter, Donna Gardner; son-in-law, Ed Gardner; nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and nephews and great, great nephews. Two great nieces were like granddaughters to him: Kim Moore and Kerri Jackson.
He was proceeded in death by an infant son, Phillip Homer; parents, Fred, and Etheline; brother, Jim Homer.
