Geneva Darlene Patterson Davis, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2025, at the age of 70, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. True to her joyful and resilient spirit, she faced every challenge with grace, humor, and unwavering love for her family.
Born on August 6, 1955, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Darlene was the daughter of the late W.L. “Pat” Patterson and Maxine Hise Patterson. She grew up in Huntsville, Alabama, where she graduated with honors from Lee High School in 1973. A natural leader and full of energy, she served as captain of the dance team during her senior year.
On August 4, 1974, Darlene married Steve Davis, at Lakewood Baptist Church in Huntsville.
Darlene began her career with NASA and PPG, where she worked from 1974 to 1981. When her daughter, Stephanie Michelle Davis, was born in 1980, she made the decision to leave her career to become a full-time mother. Two years later, she and Steve welcomed their son, Ryan Patterson Davis, completing the family she cherished above all else.
Her dedication to Stephanie and Ryan was unmatched. She poured her heart into raising them with discipline, compassion, and strong values — lessons that shaped their lives and successes. Darlene’s nurturing spirit extended far beyond her own children. From 1986 to 1994, she coached fast-pitch softball at Fern Bell, where her teams became known for their drive, teamwork, and championship titles, including multiple appearances at State and World Series tournaments.
Darlene’s love for her community was evident in every chapter of her life. She served as PTA President, volunteered in countless school events, and always found ways to uplift others. In 1996, she began working as a crossing guard and quickly rose to Safety Patrol Supervisor, earning the title of “Sergeant Davis.” Her leadership, respect, and commitment to safety earned her numerous honors from city officials and the Huntsville Police Department — and deep admiration from her colleagues.
Outside of work and family, Darlene lived life with joy and passion. She loved snow skiing with the Huntsville Ski Club and played competitive tennis with HWTA, often advancing to state and regional tournaments. Her laughter, energy made her unforgettable both on and off the court.
Faith was the cornerstone of Darlene’s life. She found deep meaning in her Bible study groups with her Christian sisters and often wrote about her longing to grow closer to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Her faith sustained her through life’s trials and brought her comfort in her final years.
After retiring in 2017, Darlene devoted herself to caring for her parents — a testament to her loving and selfless nature. She continued playing tennis and staying active as long as she could, always finding joy in movement, friendship, and family.
Darlene is preceded in death by her parents, W.L. “Pat” Patterson and Maxine Hise Patterson. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Steve Davis; her loving children, Stephanie Davis Smith (Houston) and Ryan Patterson Davis; and her five cherished grandchildren — Isabel, Jude, Davis, Patterson, and Waters Smith — who were the light of her later years.
Darlene’s legacy of love, laughter, and faith will live on in all who knew her. She will be remembered for her boundless energy, her generous heart, and her ability to make everyone feel seen and loved. Though Alzheimer’s took her memory, it could never take the warmth of her spirit or the impact she left on so many lives.
A celebration of Darlene’s life will be held at Spry Funeral Home in Huntsville, Alabama on Friday, October 17th, 2025 from 12:00pm-1:00pm wit the Funeral Service following at 1:00pm. After the funeral service the family will host a Celebration of Life from 2:30pm to 4:30pm at Valley Hill Country Club, located at 8300 Valley Hill Dr, Huntsville, AL 35802.
