David Gilchrist Whaley, Jr.

David Gilchrist Whaley, Jr., 81, of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away on July 24, 2020 at Huntsville Hospital. David was born in Troy, Alabama on November 19, 1938. He was the only child of David Gilchrist Whaley, Sr. and Tex Kilpatrick Whaley.

David graduated from Troy High School in 1957 and Troy State University in 1966. At Troy State, he met and married the late Judy Sessions. They were married for 55 years and had four children and one grandchild.

David enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his beloved only grandchild, Eden. His favorite pastimes included traveling to historic sites and nature parks. He also enjoyed reading and music, including playing the guitar. He was an avid storyteller and loved to share stories passed down from his grandmother, the late Maggie “Pat” Kilpatrick.

David was preceded in death by his parents, David Sr. and Tex Whaley, his wife, Judith Sessions Whaley, and his daughter, Ellen Mullins.

David is survived by his children; David Whaley III of Huntsville, Jennifer (Chuck) McNeese of Decatur, and Valerie Whaley of Huntsville; and grandchild, Eden McNeese of Decatur.

A graveside service will be held at 10:15 am on Tuesday, July 28, 2020 at Roselawn Cemetery, located at 741 Danville Road in Decatur, Alabama, with Pastor Miriam Smith officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to Huntsville Hospital Foundation.
