Diane Lee Jackson (Keever) passed away peacefully in her home with her loving husband at her side on November 5, 2023. Born December 27, 1946 in Fort Riley Kansas, she was the daughter of her late father Sergeant Major Harry Keever and late mother Irma E Decker. Her stepfather LTC Arthur Decker also preceded her in death.
She spent her Army childhood both in Japan and at various bases within the U.S. finally laying down roots at Redstone Arsenal, AL. She attended Butler High School and was a proud member of the fun-loving Sub Debs sorority, graduating in 1965. She looked forward to each and every high school reunion sharing her fun-loving spirit with her schoolmates, engaging in her favorite sports - singing, dancing and having fun. Diane showed us all what the 60’s music was all about. After graduation, she worked several ordinary jobs until landing at University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) in the Admission and Records Office where she met the love of her life, her husband Chauncey. After spending 16 years at the University, she left to work in the Department of Defense industry landing at Colsa Corporation from 1986 to 2003. From there she returned to the UAH as the university’s Facility Security Officer. During this period under her leadership, UAH received the highly sought-after James S. Cogswell Outstanding Industrial Security Achievement Award for the first time. She retired at the end of 2007, was then nominated for and attended the Leadership Greater Huntsville Class in support of the support the immediate community. Diane epitomized the love for life showing compassion to children and animals. She volunteered for Therapy Partners Inc, Partners Achieving Literacy Program for elementary children where each child fell in love with her tender heart as well as the amazing therapy animals. She also volunteered for the Greater Huntsville Humane Society and Madison Animal Rescue Foundation. Diane and Chauncey are members of Asbury Church in Madison AL, and attended both Boyd's Chapel United Methodist Church in Elkmont , AL, and Main Street United Methodist Church in Bay St Louis, MS.
Diane is survived by her husband Chauncey D Jackson, one and only loving son Gregory Dale Ertl, her sisters Sandra L Gould and Margaret E Jefferson (David) and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. She will be forever grateful for all the special friends, nurses and staff at both the Regency Healthcare and Rehab Center, Visiting Angels and the Hospice of North Alabama.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Spry Funeral Home of Huntsville, where the family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until 2:30pm. Funeral service will follow at 2:30 pm in Spry Funeral Home's Chapel with Dr. Carl Evans officiating. Interment will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made in her memory to Alzheimers Disease Research or the Alzheimers Association.
