Elizabeth Jean (McGinnis) Deckert

Elizabeth Jean Deckert, 76, of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away on March 6, 2025.

Preceded in death by her father, Col Eugene James McGinnis, her mother Dorthy Lillian Hood and her brother Maj Walker Lelon McGinnis.

Elizabeth is survived by her son, Kevin Deckert; nephew, Walker Eugene "Jay" McGinnis (Mikelyn); niece, Donessa Gattis (Clayton); great nephews, Rivers and Mac McGinnis and Monroe Gattis, and great niece, Laurel Gattis. 

Elizabeth (Betty) was a Navy Vet. Betty made history for being one of the first women to enter the navy as a barber. She was proud of her 10 years of service as an SH 2 E-5. We thank you Betty for your service. 

Betty was a big Braves fan. She enjoyed playing bingo and sudoku, and watching the price is right. She loved animals, especially cats. Betty was so kind and was always trying to give people presents. Most of all, Betty’s greatest love was her son Kevin. Every time we watch a Brave’s game, play bingo, or watch the Price Is Right, we will think of Betty. You are gone but not forgotten.
