Ethel H. Siffringer passed away peacefully on July 16, 2024, at North Alabama Specialty Hospital with her loving family by her side, after a brief illness. She was born on March 10, 1939, in Rome, NY, the daughter of the late Charles E. Hodierne and Ethel M. McManus.
Ethel spent much of her early career working as an account clerk and in personnel at Griffiss Air Force Base and Rome Developmental Center in Rome, NY, before relocating to Zephyrhills, FL where she worked in administrative positions at St. Leo College, Moffitt Cancer Center, and Advent Health Hospital in Zephyrhills, FL. Ethel was most proud of obtaining her associate’s degree in liberal arts in 1988, from St. Leo College, as an adult student. On February 21, 1962, she married the late Walter Thomas Siffringer. Ethel was an avid bowler with her husband Walt in the Rome area and in Florida and was on many ladies and co-ed teams. She enjoyed going to the casino and playing bunco and bingo with her friends.
She is survived by her daughter Maureen (Tom) Quackenbush of Sauquoit, NY, granddaughters Christy (Tim) Abend of Madison, Alabama, Laura (Keith) Destefanis of Holland Patent, NY, and 2 cherished great-granddaughters, Erica and Halie Abend of Madison, AL. Ethel was preceded in death by her son, Eric Siffringer in 2021, and husband, Walt in 2023.
A memorial service will be held at Monark Grove, 11260 County Line Road, Madison, AL on Saturday, July 27 at 2:00 PM. Burial will take place at a later date in Rome, NY.
