Garry Michael Basilone

Lieutenant Commander, USN (Ret.) Garry Michael Basilone, 67, of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away on April 23rd, 2020 after a two-year battle with cancer. He is survived by his loving wife, Cathy, and their children, Emily (Jason) Chebetar of Virginia Beach, VA,  Patrick (Christina) Basilone of Huntsville, AL, and Jillian Basilone of Houston, TX, his grandson, William Chebetar, his mother, Patricia Basilone, sisters Linda Basilone, Mary Jane (Rick) Farrell, Diane Basilone, Karen (Clayton) Goya, and Janet (John) Welsh, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, William C. Basilone, of Huron, OH. 

Garry was born in San Antonio, TX. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1974 and the Naval Postgraduate School in 1986. He retired from his Naval Aviation career in 1994 after 20 years of service. He then built a second career as a reliability and safety engineer, retiring for a second time in 2019. His lifelong love of science and technology colored his approach to life, seeking (and often finding!) solutions to every problem. His children will always remember: “If it isn’t broken, take it apart and fix it.” 

Funeral Services will be held at St. Peter Catholic Church, Huron, Ohio, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Movember Foundation (us.movember.com/donate) or the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans (nchv.org).
