Geneva "Jean" (Phillips) Evans
Obituary
Geneva “Jean” Phillips Evans, age 95, passed away on January 19, 2023. Jean was born and raised in Bear Creek, Alabama, and obtained teaching degrees from Florence State and the University of Alabama. She spent most of her adult life in Huntsville, enjoying a long career as a teacher touching the lives of many students for 35 years, mostly at Fifth Avenue Elementary School and Whitesburg Middle School.
Jean was predeceased by her husband, Claud Hudson Evans, sister, Wanda Phillips Sparkman and parents, Hardy and Ozella Phillips. She is survived by her son, John Evans and daughter-in-law, Patsy Donaldson Evans, three grandchildren, Catherine Holsten (Scott), William Evans (Tricia) and Virginia Kincaid (Jordan) and five great grandchildren, Sam and Jane Holsten and Miles, Ellie and Louie Kincaid. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews whom she loved very much.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 28 in the chapel at Spry Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Free 2 Teach (Huntsville) or Clear Lake Environmental Research Center (California).
