Gordon J Hendrix, 91, of Huntsville went to be with our Lord and Savior on August 28,2020 at his home in Gulf Shores. He was born January 21,1929 to James "Avon" Hendrix and Mary (Brewer) Hendrix in Huntsville, AL. Gordon and his dearly departed wife, Margaret, were married on June 13,1946 in Huntsville, AL. They were married almost 66 years at the time of her death June 4,2012.
Gordon was a hard worker all of his life and retired from the Huntsville Utilities in 1994 and loved to joke around. Anyone that knew Gordon knew he was a prankster. He loved to laugh. His family and friends will miss him greatly (especially his joyous laughter and his prayers) but are very thankful for such a wonderful and loving Daddy, PaPa (PawPaw), Great-grandfather, Uncle and Friend. He loved the Lord with all his heart and accepted Jesus as his personal Savior in October 1951. He always talked and expressed his love of the Lord with everyone he knew. His greatest desire was/is for everyone to know the love of Jesus and to know Him as their personal Savior.
Survivors include his daughters, Brenda Beal of Foley, Kathie (Ken) Cheatham of Gulf Shores and Devon Hendrix Price of Scottsboro, AL; son, Samuel Hendrix; Grandchildren Troy Beal, Fred (Terry) Beal, K.C. Cheatham, Joshua Price and Jessica (David) Proctor; Great-grandchildren, Kaden and Lila Cheatham, Wiley and Silas Proctor and Brandon Shaw. Sisters, Patricia Hendrix Draper and Gwen Hendrix Kelley; several very loved nieces and nephews (some departed) and great-nieces and nephews. Sister-in-laws, Louise (Schrimsher) Hendrix (age 100!) and Annie Wagoner Hendrix Spalding.
Gordon was preceded in death by his loving wife, Margaret Jo (Rice) Hendrix and son, Stanley Hendrix; parents James "Avon" Hendrix and Mary (Brewer) Hendrix; brothers, Bill, Bud, Noland, Ernest and Charlie Hendrix. Sister, Margie (Hendrix) Farrow.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 20th, from 1-3 at Spry Funeral Home with the service following at 3:00 in Spry Chapel with Pastor Ryan Johnson officiating. He will be laid to rest at Maple Hill Cemetery beside his wife and son.
