Gregory Eaton Obituary

Greg Wayne Eaton (Pappy) passed away on January 24, 2025.

He was proceeded in death by his mother Dot Eaton, John Wayne Eaton and first wife Kippi Eaton. He is survived by his two children, Joseph and Regina Nicole; his four stepchildren, Angie, James, Steven and Anthony; his brother, Mark Eaton; his wife, Laura; and twelve grandchildren.

Greg was born and raised on O'Shaughnessy Ave in downtown Huntsville- where his family home still stands. He graduated from Lee High School in 1983. He spent his years there as a drummer for the band. Greg competed and won numerous state and national music competitions. After high school he attended Calhoun Community College to study music engineering and psychology. Shortly before starting college, he started the band Abstract which would be his greatest accomplishment in life. His band put on several hundred shows between the early 80s and early 90s. They helped open and promote dozens of North Alabama music venues. Greg Eaton was a pillar in establishing the local music scene for North Alabama. His band would go on to do shows all around, win several competitions, as well as have newspaper and magazine features of their band.

After getting his associate’s degree, Greg went to work in the food and hospitality industry as a manager. He eventually came to work at one of Huntsville’s oldest family-owned restaurants, Mullins. He had a 28-year career there. Once Mullins closed their doors, Greg went on to work and help train kitchen staff in half a dozen restaurants across the city. He was considered an expert in his field and was highly sought after by local establishments. His final employment would be at the local bar and restaurant, Shagnasty’s, which was named after the street he grew up on.

He was deeply loved by all who worked with him and by his family and friends. Greg is gone from this world, but his music is still here to help keep his memory alive.
