Gregory Williams Obituary

Gregory Alan Williams of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away on Friday, November 15, 2024, at the age of 78. He was born in Atlanta, Georgia, and lived there until he moved to Florida to finish high school. He voluntarily enlisted in the US Army in 1966 at the age of 19 and was honorably discharged after 3 years of service.  After developing a love for furniture touch-up and repair at Ethan Allen Carriage House in Orlando, Greg joined Mohawk Finishing Products and became an award-winning product salesman and an instructor in the art of furniture refinishing. Following retirement from his sales role, he continued sharing his expertise through teaching and writing articles in wood refinishing publications.

Greg was an avid outdoorsman, fisherman, and woodworker; loved playing volleyball, ping pong, and tennis; and enjoyed sailing competitively, snow skiing, swimming, and scuba diving. He was always eager to teach these skills to others, even setting up a backyard ski school to prepare family members for their first skiing experience. Greg was also a voracious reader, reading for both pleasure and knowledge, and he loved engaging in deep conversations with family and friends where he would utilize his incredible vocabulary.

Greg was preceded in death by his wife, Mia; his parents, Mary Jo and Ira Harrison, and Charles and Barbra Williams; his sister, Karen Williams; his brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Jeanie Harrison; and his brother-in-law, George Wilbur.

He is survived by his sons, Jeff (Paula) and Jared Williams; his granddaughters, Ally, Emma, Madisen, and Sydney Williams; his siblings, Lynn Wilbur, Gayle (Pablo) Williams, Tony (Judi) Harrison, Jeff (Louise) Harrison, Mike (Tricia) Harrison, Jocelyn (Roger) Harrison, Eric (Rhonda) Harrison, and Meredith (Denice) Harrison; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.

Family members will gather for a celebration of Greg's life on December 7th. The family extends a special thank you to the medical professionals and staff at the Floyd E. Tut Fann VA Home for the exceptional care they provided to Greg in his last days. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research at https://give.michaeljfox.org/give/421686/#!/donation/checkout
