Hazel Mae (Shaver) Porter

Mrs. Hazel Mae Shaver Porter, 95, of Huntsville, AL passed away on November 14, 2021. She was preceded in death by her parents J.D. and Olive Medley Shaver, husband James Porter, daughter Joan Gentry, sons-in-law Jeffrey Gentry and Gary Arnold, and siblings Joyce Lamb, Jennie Lou Sullivan, Tommie Lee Smith, Edna McCann, Francis Shaver, Bernice Mathis, Earl Ragan, G.W. Shaver, and Harold Shaver. She is survived by four children Charlotte Hawkins (Don), Brenda Arnold, and Lloyd Porter all of Huntsville and Mary Dear (Charles) of Fort Worth, Texas, two brothers Ray Ragan and Willis Ragan, her grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and more than 40 foster children. Mr. & Mrs. Porter were foster parents for 17 years and were recognized as Foster Parents of the Year for Madison County in 1995. Mrs. Porter also worked at the Army Services Forces at Redstone Arsenal in 1945. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church and the College Park Church of God. The visitation will be held Thursday, November 18, 2021 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the College Park Church of God, with the service to follow at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be in Huntsville Memory Gardens.
