Jack Randall Barnett, 88, passed away peacefully at his Huntsville home in the early hours of May 29th, 2025.
Randall Barnett was born on January 25, 1937, in Gurley, Alabama, to John Edward Barnett Sr. and Estelle Reed Barnett. As a young man, he moved to Illinois, where he began a career as a truck driver, primarily hauling steel. He worked hard and took pride in his job until his retirement around 1982.
After retiring, Randall returned to his roots in Gurley and began a second career at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center. He worked there until his second retirement, continuing his lifelong habit of staying active.
Randall was a man of many interests. He enjoyed ice fishing during his time up north and later turned his attention to raising Angus cattle, gardening, woodworking, and welding. He was a hard worker who found joy in staying busy—whether tending to his garden, caring for his animals, fishing, camping, or simply relaxing on his front porch in a rocking chair. In his later years, he especially enjoyed time with his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Edward Barnett Sr.; his mother, Estelle Reed Barnett; his daughter, Susan Barnett; his sister, Imogene Barnett Hoekstra; his brother, Johnny Barnett Jr.; and his dear friend, Dewey Hess.
He is survived by his wife, Anita Meeks Barnett; sons, Mark Barnett and Phillip (Cindy) Barnett, both of Gurley, and Steve Barnett of Nevada; brothers, Lonnie Barnett of Gurley and Ray Barnett of Lewisburg, TN; stepdaughters, April (Justin) Phillips of Huntsville and Shelley Stinnett; and two grandchildren, Ava and Ryan.
Visitation will be held at Spry Funeral Home of Huntsville on Sunday, June 1st, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
