Jack Donald Gross

Jack Donald Gross, 93, was welcomed to his heavenly home on June 23rd, 2026. Those who knew him best will always remember his faithful, steady presence and his dedication to the Lord, his family, and the church he loved so well.

Jack was born to Conda and Dora Gross in Hazard, Kentucky on March 3, 1933. He married his sweetheart, Martha, on April 8th, 1954. Jack and Martha soon became parents to four beautiful children: Donald, Cathi, Julie, and Michael; and their family moved to Madison, Alabama in 1962. Together, they passed down their faith in God to their children and touched countless lives through their generous hospitality over the years. Jack and Martha had such a heart for children, and in addition to lovingly raising their four offspring, they also spent several years as foster parents to children needing a loving temporary home.

Jack was an engineer through and through. He worked on airplane electronics while he served in the Air Force for four years. He later graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in electrical engineering in 1961, before moving to Madison to work at NASA. Jack loved his work at NASA and remained there 37 years until he retired in 1999.

Jack and his family were well-known and beloved in the Madison area for their kind generosity, loving hospitality, and involvement with the Madison Church of Christ, where he served as an Elder for more than 50 years. Jack loved the Lord and His people fervently and was always eager to bring as many people to Christ as possible.

Jack is survived by his daughters, Cathi Harless (Joe Harless) and Julie Dewberry (Doug Dewberry); his son, Michael; his daughter-in-law, Pam Gross; his grandchildren, Melissa Flanagan (Patrick Flanagan), Brian Gross (Rachel Gross), Chase Dewberry (Meagan Dewberry), Brianna Dewberry, Reid Dewberry (Anna Catherine Dewberry), and Andrew Harless; his great grandchildren, Tillie and Molly Flanagan; Jack, Amy, and Ben Gross; Miles and Maisie Dewberry; and Lucas Dewberry; and his brother, Dwight Gross. He is preceded in death by his parents, Conda and Dora Gross; his wife, Martha Gross; his son, Donald Gross; and his sisters, Leila Asfahl and Louise Jewel.

Visitation for Jack will be hosted at Madison Church of Christ beginning at 10:00 am on Monday, June 29th, 2026, followed immediately by his funeral beginning at 12:00 pm. Minister Brandon Pressnell will officiate the service.
