James Preston Bennett Sr, 83, passed away peacefully on Saturday, 11-27-21, at Huntsville Hospital. James is preceded in death by his loving wife, of 57 years, Carolyn Faye Carter Bennett; his mother Sammye Jane Bennett, his father Clifton Yancey Bennett, sister-in-law, Janice Carter Harris, brother-in-law, Robert Flood, all of Paducah, KY. He is survived by his sister, Judy Bennett Flood, sister-in-law Leslie (Tommy) Flatt, of Paducah, KY; and Patsy Carter Cissell, of Birmingham, AL.
James leaves behind 4 children: Tara (Kenny) Chaney, of Harvest, AL; Jim (Kathy) Bennett, of Valdosta, GA; Tim (Teri) Bennett, of Arlington, TX; and Leslie (John) Robinson, of Madison, AL; 10 grandchildren: Walt (Nicole), Jacob (Christina), & Sam Chaney; William Sewell & Jayme Bennett; Blake (Gina) & Brock (Brittney) Bennett; Caroline, Austin, & Rebecca Robinson; 7 great grandchildren: Bailey, Lane, & Abby Sanders; Finley & Collins Chaney, Brinley Chaney; Cooper Bennett; & Bodey Bennett, expecting in February 2022. James leaves behind many nieces & nephews.
James and Carolyn were married in December 1956. He served in the U.S. Air Force for four years. They moved to Huntsville AL, where he worked for Chrysler Saturn team. Then he went to work for Dunlop Tire Company, until retirement, after 31 years. He served as a deacon at Central Church of Christ. He was a former member of Mastin Lake Church of Christ and Madison Church of Christ. He was a very supportive father and grandfather, and enjoyed fishing, gardening, and craftsmanship.
There will be a family Graveside Service at Valhalla Cemetery Wednesday, December 1, 2021
