With hearts aching and eyes full of tears, we share the passing of James Robert Buford, Sr., who left this world on May 10, 2025. Just ten weeks after the loss of his beloved wife of 53 years, Irene, Jim has now joined her in peaceful rest. The thought of them reunited—hand in hand once more—brings a tender comfort amid our grief.
Born on August 26, 1943, in Sunflower, Mississippi, Jim was a man of quiet strength and unwavering love. He was a rock—steady, dependable, and deeply rooted in faith and family. Whether you knew him as a brother, uncle, husband, father, grandfather, or great-grandfather, Jim’s presence was steady and familiar—like something you could count on. He didn’t need many words to show his love; it was in the way he showed up and in the quiet strength he carried through every season of life. Jim’s hands told the story of his life—strong, calloused, and always busy. From tuning up engines and fixing farm equipment, to mastering the grill at the family’s beloved barbecue restaurant, Jim worked with heart and purpose. No task was beneath him, and no sacrifice was too great if it meant caring for the ones he loved. He could fix just about anything—sometimes with precision, other times with duct tape and a prayer always with heart.
For the last three decades he managed a hunting lodge which allowed him the opportunity to enjoy the quiet rhythm of country life. He spent his days surrounded by the beauty of nature, doing what he loved—hunting, fishing, gardening, and riding his tractor. But what made those days truly special was sharing those simple joys with his grandchildren, who brought him endless delight.
At the very heart of Jim’s life was his devotion to Jehovah God. His faith was more than belief—it was his anchor. Through every hardship and heartache, Jim stood firm, finding strength in prayer and in the hope that God’s promises would one day be fulfilled. He didn’t speak loudly about his faith, but you could see it in everything he did—in his patience, his generosity, and the quiet way he served others. Jim never sought recognition. He simply showed up, day after day, with love in his heart and a willingness to help. His love for Irene was the truest kind—steadfast, tender, and enduring. Even in his final days, her name was on his lips. Their love was not just long-lasting—it was deep, real, and sacred. A love that inspires everyone who witnessed it. His family remembers the countless ways he gave of himself: the things he fixed, the quiet prayers he whispered, the long hours he worked, and the steady support he offered. He never asked for much, and while his quiet sacrifices weren’t always fully seen or acknowledged at the time, they are deeply appreciated now—and remembered with love and respect.
James Robert Buford leaves behind more than memories. He leaves a legacy: of faith quietly lived, of family greatly loved, of humility, strength, and grace. He is survived by his dear brothers and sisters, his devoted sons and daughters, and his many cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Each of them carries a piece of his heart and each feels the ache of his absence deeply. Though Jim now sleeps in death, we know he rests beside his sweet Irene, at peace and in love, awaiting the beautiful day when all things will be made new. Until then, we hold tight to the example he left us: a life lived simply, but full of meaning. A man who walked with God and loved with his whole heart. Rest now, Daddy. Your hands have done enough, and your legacy is written in the lives you’ve shaped. We love you endlessly—and miss you always.
A Memorial Service will be held on June 7th, 2025 at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, in Jackson, AL, at 1:00 PM.
