After a courageous battle with cancer, Joan Hines passed away peacefully on April 26, 2025, in Huntsville, Alabama, surrounded by her loving family.
Joan was born on March 30, 1950, to Edwin and Leona Honeycutt in Bluefield, West Virginia.
She proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. While stationed in Biloxi, Mississippi, she met and married the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Hines. Their marriage and partnership spanned 51 wonderful years.
Joan’s service also took her to California. After her honorable discharge, she dedicated herself to raising her children and earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice.
Following the family’s move to Alabama, Joan worked in the aerospace industry for 25 years as a Security Administrator.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Robert; daughters Jennifer D. Tate (Grayson) of Madison, Michelle L. Harper (Michael) of Owens Cross Roads, and Heather M. Rodgers (Derrick) of Daphne; grandchildren Brylan Tate and Mathis Tate (children of Jennifer); Bailey Hines, Logan Harper, and Asher Harper (children of Michelle); and Rivers Rodgers, Sienna Rodgers, and Leo Rodgers (children of Heather); brother Bill Honeycutt; sister-in-law Susan of Troutville; and brother-in-law John Hines of El Paso.
Joan was a loving wife and devoted mother who celebrated her family’s accomplishments with pride. She will be remembered most for her generosity and the deep love she showed to her grandchildren. Her passions included traveling, sewing, and reading. She had a special fondness for her golden retrievers and her collections of sea turtles and pink flamingos.
A private committal service to honor and celebrate Joan’s life will take place on June 6, 2025, at the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery at Spanish Fort.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Alabama Coastal Foundation.
