John Larry Nelson

Mr. John Larry Nelson, age 88 of Huntsville, passed away Saturday at a local hospital.  A native of Huntsville, AL, he served three years in the U.S. Army.  After which he earned a college degree and went to work in Quality Assurance for the U.S. Army for 40 years.  His job took him to all 50 states and all over the world.  He had a love for all cars especially the classics.  He bought and sold over 52 cars in his lifetime.  He also had a love and collected model classic cars.  He never met a stranger and was loved by all.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 64 years and caregiver of 17 years, Helen Nelson; four children, Scott Nelson, Sharon Saam, and husband John, Dan Nelson, and wife Trish, and Rob Nelson, and wife Ashley; three sisters, Doris Haynes, and husband O.L., Brenda Berry, and husband Billy, and Glenda Burroughs, and husband J.H; brother, Jay Nelson, and wife Ann; four grandchildren, Matt Mitchell, and wife Morgan, Jeff Mitchell, and wife Ellie, Evan Nelson and Pierce Nelson, and extended family and friends.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Spry Funeral Home of Huntsville, where the family will receive friends Wednesday, from 12:00pm until 1:45pm.  A funeral service will follow at 2:00pm, in Spry Funeral Home's Chapel, with Pastor Rob Nelson and Pastor Chris Johnson officiating.  Interment will follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Red Cross.
