Jonathan Daniel Giles, age 53, of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away on December 5, 2025.
Jonathan was born in 1972 to Walter (Jr) and Lucille Giles. He was the youngest brother to Walter (III) and Patricia. He was a father to Sara-Katherine Elaine Giles. A beloved uncle to Clayton, Jesse, Kelly Giles, Colin and Kyra Roberson. Jonathan spent all of his days in the Five Points area. He was a graduate of Lee High School and had a Business Degree from Athens State University. Jonathan played upright bass and sang in The Cracker Jacks, a rockabilly band that played throughout the Tennessee Valley starting in the late 1990’s. Around the same time, Jonathan opened Rockabilly’s Smokehouse, a barbecue and catfish restaurant, which featured live music. Going by the on-air moniker Johnny Gee Whiz, he and his friend Gentleman Jim hosted The Rockabilly Smokehouse Show, a free-wheeling weekly music and talk program on WDJL-AM 1000 in 1996 and 1997. He was also the partial owner/manager of family commercial property which has grown into the “Shops on Wellman Avenue” in Five Points.
From a young age, Jonathan loved to make folks laugh, telling you a crazy story with a mischievous grin. He was a generous man, always willing to help someone in need, being known for dropping a “Benjamin Franklin” into a less fortunate hand.
Jonathan Giles was a self-less man with a kind heart.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Lucille Giles and by his nephew, Jesse Giles.
Survived by his daughter, Sara-Kate Giles, brother, Walter Giles (Pam), sister, Patricia Roberson, his nieces and nephews and his much-loved cats.
