Josephine Hardcastle Gleaves

Josephine (Jo) Gleaves passed away peacefully on April 16, 2023.  She was a dedicated wife and mother.  Jo was born in Nashville, Tennessee, to Samuel and Pauline Hardcastle on October 26, 1924.  She graduated from Isaac Litton High School in 1942 then worked at Methodist Publishing House. 

Jo married her husband Julian in 1945 and had one daughter Connie.  She loved plants and flowers and had a talent for decorating as well as completing many needlepoint projects.  Jo and her husband were Huntsville residents for sixty-one years.  She was involved in the Home Demonstration Club and the Huntsville Bowling League.  In her later years, Jo worked at the Uniform Shop in Huntsville.  As one friend and neighbor stated, she was friendly and always had a smile on her face and a twinkle in her eye.  She loved life and her independence.

Jo is survived by her daughter Connie and several nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her husband Julian, her mother and father, and two sisters Eugenia and Frances.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 22, at Woodlawn Cemetery, 660 Thompson Lane, Nashville, Tennessee, 37204.
