Judith Maude Smith was born on September 1, 1936, to Herman and Carrie Self in West Virginia and passed away on April 11, 2025. After 88 years on this earth, she entered into the presence of the Lord.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 40+ years, Richard Smith, who she is now reunited with in heaven. She is also preceded in death by her brother Billy Smith.
She is survived by her sisters Mary Sue Arborgast and Loretta Sayles, her brother Tommy Smith, her sons Douglas Smith (Beth) and Donald Smith (Cynthia), her grandchildren Megan Smith and Jason Smith (Kelsey), and her 3 precious great-grandchildren.
She loved her family and hosting get-togethers to swim, eat, and play card games. She loved to comfort others in their times of need by going to hospitals with her therapy dogs and never meeting a stranger. She enjoyed serving at her church whether it was in the choir, helping with the youth and college, the recreation center, or book clubs. Most of all, she was devoted to her Lord Jesus Christ by extending the same mercy and grace to others that she received from Christ himself.
These two verses express what Judy would want each of you to know:
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7
“Therefore, being always of good courage, and knowing that while we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord. For we walk by faith, not by sight, but we are of good courage and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord.” 2 Corinthians 5:6-8
Services will be held at Spry Funeral Home of Huntsville on April 16, 2025. Visitation will be held from 10:30am until 12:30pm, followed by the funeral service at 12:30pm. Interment will immediately proceed at Huntsville Memory Gardens.
