Larry Wallace Obituary

Larry Hicks Wallace, 83, of Guntersville, Alabama, passed away Thursday, February 20, 2025, at Shepherd’s Cove Hospice in Albertville, Alabama. Larry was born on March 16, 1941, to Edward and Mable Wallace.

Larry is survived by his son, Stephen (Christina) Wallace of Duffield, VA; daughter, Cathy (Doug) Davis of Centre, AL; grandchildren, Deidra (Ryan) Cox of Centre, AL, Tori (Walter) Granthum of Foley, AL, Garrett Wallace, Kinslie Wallace and Jake Wallace of Duffield, VA; Great- Grandchildren, JC Granthum and Taytum Cox; Sister, Linda (Bernard) Granger, Huntsville, AL; Brothers-in-Law, Calvin (Jeanette) Dale, Brentwood, TN, Allen Dale, Huntsville, AL, Jimmy (Fran) Dale, Knoxville, TN; Sister-in-Law, Nancy (Alex) Hopkins, Old Hickory, TN.

Larry is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Mary Ann Dale Wallace, and his parents, Ed and Mable Wallace.

Larry was a 1959 graduate of Huntsville High School. He attended college at Mars Hill University and the University of Alabama in Huntsville. He worked in the aerospace and defense industry in Huntsville, AL. Larry started as a draftsman and then switched to photography. He was an official photographer for the Apollo program and then developed techniques for high- speed photography for the DOD. He ended his career as a contract manager running contracts for missile testing and flight range operations among others.

Larry was a caring and loving son and brother, but his true calling in life began at the start of his 60-year marriage to Mary Ann and the children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren from that marriage. He was a devoted Christian and a founding member of Huntsville Bible Church, where he served as a deacon for many years. Larry moved to Guntersville full-time in 1988, and a few years later, retired and started enjoying his time at the lake with his family. He taught all his grandchildren to ski and to love being on the water while enjoying family fun. Summertime holds special memories for the grandchildren. Larry attended Creek Path Baptist Church in Guntersville.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Shepherd’s Cove Hospice, 408 Martling Rd, Albertville, AL 35951, or to a charity of your choice.
