Laura Wolfson, age 81, of Huntsville passed away Friday. Laura was born to Daisy and John Keith at their home near Sewannee Mountain Tennessee. One of 11 brothers and sisters, she attended Centennial Elementary and graduated from Winchester High School in 1961.
Laura married Mark Wolfson in 1967 at Bible Presbyterian Church in Huntsville, AL. They have two sons, Scott Wolfson (Katherine) of Huntsville and Brandon Wolfson (Lisa) of Alexandria, VA, and two grandchildren Miles Wolfson and Alaina Wolfson. She was preceded in death by her parents.
From 1962 to 1972 Laura worked at South Central Bell as a phone operator and payroll administrator. She then stayed at home to raise her boys before starting college to study finance in 1979. While in college she also began working with the US Government in the Civilian Personnel Office and the Army Research, Development and Engineering Center (RDEC) as a Typist. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s of Science in Financial Management from the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) in 1986. After receiving her degree, she began working for the Space and Missile Defense Command (SMDC) as a Budget Analyst where she managed the finances of many high-profile defense programs. She always loved working with numbers and making sure every penny was accounted for. From 1997 to 2002, her and Mark moved to Europe where she supported the Army European Headquarters in Heidelberg, Germany while they enjoyed traveling and experiencing the sights and cultures of many neighboring countries including, Italy, Turkey, Egypt, Netherlands, Belgium, France, Spain, Switzerland, Hungry, Austria, Czechoslovakia, and Greece. They returned to the United States where she continued as a Budget Analyst before retiring in 2006.
Laura was always a hard worker who didn’t like being idle. So, after retirement she continued to find a way to work with finance and numbers by managing the rental property business that her and Mark began a few years prior. She also loved helping others and began volunteering at the Madison branch of the Huntsville Hospital in the gift shop while remaining active in her church community and its ministry to homebound seniors.
