Lois Moore Obituary

Lois Holley Moore completed her earthly life and went peacefully to be with the Lord on Friday, March 8, 2024, at the age of 99 years.

Lois was born in Geneva County, Alabama on June 9, 1924, to parents James Charlie Holley and Nannie Price Holley, one of 5 children. Lois was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Beri F Moore, and by brothers, Purvis Holley, Norvey Holley and Gamuel Holley. Lois leaves behind her brother Windell (Judy) Holley, her children Sandra Moore and  L. Allen (Janet) Moore, grandchildren Holly (Andrew) Miskowiec and David (Olivia) Moore and great grandchildren Peter Miskowiec and Franklin Moore.

Lois began her work life by replacing a WWII draftee at Taylor Auto Parts and Supply Store, in Andalusia, Alabama. She went on to enjoy a position as receptionist at WAMI Radio Station in Opp Alabama, a station which her husband managed for many years. Lois completed her work career as bookkeeper for Colonial Baking Company, in Huntsville, Alabama.

Once coming to Huntsville with her husband, Lois became an avid member of University Baptist Church (UBC). She was proud to say that her first visit to UBC was the day that the thriving congregation moved into their then new (and current) sanctuary. Lois helped teach primary-age children. Once she retired, she also became a member of the Jubilee Singers and Live Wires.

Lois enjoyed home gardening activities. She prided herself and her husband with plugging Zoysia grass into her front and back yards, and vigorously keeping her yard free of the neighbor's leaves every Autumn. Year around, Lois planted and maintained flowering shrubbery, rose bushes and flower beds. Another favorite activity was her drives to visit the Holley family in Panama City, Florida. She also did her best to keep up her children and grandchildren's educational experiences and family lives.

Lois enjoyed her final 3 years as a resident of a local assisted living, memory care home.  She enjoyed company and was always ready to provide a tour of her apartment, and praise the staff and residents as being so friendly and always getting along with everybody. Her special joys were frequent group Joyrides and music programs. She seemed to always have a song on the tip of her tongue. Her specialty was  "I Love You a Bushel and a Peck." One day while walking outside with her daughter, she saw the trail in the sky left behind by an airplane. When her daughter mentioned that Lois' husband had been in the Air Force Reserve, Lois started singing "Off we go into the wild blue yonder," and she sang the entire song !

In lieu of flowers, a donation to Church on the Hill (Formerly known as University Baptist Church) Huntsville, AL would be appreciated.
