Loretta Hampton Howard, 87, peacefully passed away with family by her side, on Tuesday, June 21, 2022. She was born in the Appalachian mountains on February 16, 1935, in Pound, Virginia. She is the daughter of Samuel Hampton, a coal miner, and Martha Morgan Hampton. She was the fifth of seven children. Loretta was married to deceased husband, John Howard, for 27 years. She is survived by two sons, Kirk Howard and Victor Howard (wife Mary), and deceased daughter, Elizabeth Howard. Loretta has four living grandchildren, Jason Howard (wife Christine), Luke Howard, Rhiannon Howard, Leah Howard and deceased grandson, Marc Price. She has three step grandchildren, Ammon Mckinney, Katie Pacheco and Cardin McKinney. She has four great grandchildren and nine step-great grandchildren.
Loretta was a devoted mother and grandmother. She especially loved and adored all children. Her life was a life of love and service. Her compassion to others was never ending. She was truly an angel on earth. She was the living embodiment of the sayings "give you the shirt off her back" and "tougher than nails."
Loretta worked at the Madison County, Auburn Agricultural Extension Service for 12 years. She was an entrepreneur and business woman who started and operated two businesses for over 30 years: Howard Realty and AAA Bonding Company. She was the first woman to own a bonding company in Huntsville.
Loretta loved the gospel of Jesus Christ. She was a Sunday School teacher at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for 40 years and loved studying the scriptures. Loretta was always positive, always smiling and looked at the bright side of life.
Mom was a coal miner's daughter, loved to sing, was a gifted writer and had a mountain expression for every experience. She loved living life and lived to make everyone's life better. Mom never met a stranger. We were so lucky and fortunate to have her as our Momma and Mee-Maw and we will miss her and love her forever!
We would like to thank Loretta's loving care givers for the past 7 years, Jaynne Matson, Bunny Lamps and Lucille Holden. We can never repay you for your tender love and kindness shown to our Mother.
