The life of Mary Lyness (King) Gregory, of Huntsville Alabama, was concluded on January 5th.
Her loss is immensely felt by her two surviving children, William Gregory of Huntsville Alabama and Lane Hanks of Edgefield South Carolina. Mary is preceded in death by her parents Franklin D. King and JoAn S. King of Aiken South Carolina, and brother Charles G. King of Whitwell Tennessee.
But the loss of Mary will be felt throughout the community of Huntsville. Where for the last five years she made her home. Exuberantly, devoting her time to dog training, participating and obtaining titles such as AKC and NASDA Scent Work, AKC Agility, and AKC Obedience, to name just a few. Actively volunteering as club librarian and instructor at the Huntsville Obedience and Training Club. But her drive to volunteer extended beyond and into the surrounding community. Where she and Pixil, her beloved Papillion, visited residents at a local memory care home. Her volunteering further extended to the charity shops in town, where her developed skills in restoring antique dolls. Facilitated, once dingy dolls to be restored appearing almost new and ready to once more give countless hours of joy and play. When at home, Mary’s indomitable spirit was no less damped. The love and care of which was always felt by her two children, from her homeschooling both through high school. To her constant and unwavering encouragement for all in her family to achieve their dreams. Whether she was spending a relaxing evening doing sewing or cultivating the gardens about her home. She will be greatly and deeply missed.
At this time there will be no funeral, a private memorial is being planned by her children.
For any whom wish to honor her memory a donation to Lucky Star Cavalier Rescue, Cavalier USA National Rescue, or to the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Health Research Endowment, North Carolina State University. Any of which would support Mary’s lifelong love of the breed. The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel was Mary’s “Heart Breed” from the moment in 1986 in a campground when a Tri-colored Cavalier bounded up and licked her hand. She knew that this gay and loving breed would forever be in her heart.
