Our loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Mary E. (Houston) Pollard, 84, of New Market, Alabama, gained her heavenly body on Wednesday, November 13, 2024. Mary was born May 14th, 1940, to Charlie Almon Houston and Lillie Mae (Miller) Houston in Jackson County, Alabama. Mary had a strong faith in Jesus and was a devout Christian. She previously attended Northside Baptist and Brownsboro Baptist where she taught Sunday school for the younger children. She loved telling stories of the funny things that kids say! Mary was also a very hard worker all her life. Her work history ranged from packing stove parts at Martin Industries to shipping & receiving at Genesco Shoe Company. Her most recent job was as a sales associate at Wal-Mart where her co-workers & managers boasted of her ability to work circles around the “youngsters”. Mary loved making quilts for her family members, reading, playing her jigsaw puzzles on her tablet and spending time with family & friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents along with her husband, Ronald A. Pollard and son, Rickey D. Pollard; sisters Verna McElyea, Anita Bissett & Ethyl Gray.
She is survived by her brother, John A. Houston (Marge); daughters, Teresa Pollard Veeneman (Thomas) and Sheri Pollard-Elvin (late, Glen); grand-children, Bobby Dale Simmons (Joy), Andrew Elvin & Braeden Elvin; great grandchildren, Brooklyn Simmons and Luca Simmons, and numerous nieces & nephews.
