Michael E. Kuhnkey, age 73 of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away Monday at home.
Michael was born on January 16, 1952 in Monmouth, IL to Frank and Rosa Kuhnkey. He graduated from Monmouth College in 1975. After graduating college, he joined the US Army where he received a commission as an officer. While in the Army, he served overseas in Europe from 1976-1979 in the Air Defense Artillery. In 1977 he was promoted to Captain while serving in Hanau, Germany. He returned to the US Redstone Arsenal as an instructor. In 1979 he received the Army commendation Medal. After he was honorably discharged from the Army in 1982, he went to work for United Space Booster. Later he began working for Raytheon as a Systems Engineer until his retirement in 2019.
Michael is preceded in death by his father, Frank Phillip Kuhnkey. He is survived by his mother, Rosa Kuhnkey; son, Eric (Stacey) Kuhnkey; daughter Kristin (Mick) Wilson; sister, Nancy (Charles) Knight; brother, Phillip (Nancy) Kuhnkey; and grandchildren, Camryn Kuhnkey, Blake Kuhnkey, Pyper Wilson, and Coby Wilson.
